Works on the dumpsite Vrtijeljka run as planned

The rehabilitation of the Vrtijeljka non-sanitary dumpsite in the capital of Cetinje is running as planned. The works are in the final stage and their completion is expected within the agreed time.

The total surface of the dumpsite to be rehabilitated is 23 500 m2, and the estimated total amount of waste is about 160 000 m3.

This project is implemented as part of the Operational Program Regional Development 2012-2013, which was adopted by the Montenegrin Government in March 2012 and by the European Commission in December of that year. The program is funded from the EU pre-accession funds i.e. IPA funds through Component III - Regional Development. The main objective of the Program is to improve living standards and the environment in Montenegro, in accordance with national policies and strategies, as well as with EU policies and standards.

The total budget for this project is €  1.727.735,50, of which 85% is funded by the European Union through IPA, while 15% is co-financing provided through the Capital Budget of Montenegro. The program consists of 5 infrastructure projects, three in the field of environment and two in the field of transport. In addition to infrastructure projects, several technical assistance projects are also implemented.

The program is implemented by the Operational Structure for IPA Component III (OS), which consists of the following bodies: the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism - the body responsible for the complete Program and Environmental Projects, then the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs - the body in charge of transport projects and Directorate of Public Works as Implementing body in charge of contracting and carrying out projects.
